Artistic Landscapes is a landscape contractor that installs all types of sod providing you with a new gorgeous lawn. We also install irrigation systems to keep your new lawn properly watered. We can identify what type of grass is best for your yard based on the sun exposure, drainage, soil type and expected foot traffic. Below are listed some of the sod types that we install and our experience with them.
Zeon Zoysia
Zeon Zoysia is the Cadillac of grasses. Its lush dense fine bladed turf makes for the most beautiful lawn. Zeon Zoysia is a warm season grass and turns golden brown in the winter. Zoysia is slower growing than Bermuda with a shallower root system. It is more expensive because of its slower growth. Zoysia takes longer to grow than Bermuda, so sod farms get less production from their fields. Zoysia is best established from sod. The seed is a different variety and we discourage any type of over-seeding. Zoysia can be susceptible to winter kill, meaning that some of the grass may not green up in the spring, or there will be areas where the grass is thin. This can be caused by late summer fertilization’s and pre-emergent. DO NOT put pre-emergent on a new Zoysia lawn during it’s first year. Before sodding a new lawn, you should apply round up to the previous lawn, especially if it is Bermuda. You do not want the Bermuda to re-emerge in your new Zoysia grass.
Zoysia is a warm season grass that likes the heat. It is a little slower to turn green in the spring compared to Bermuda. Fertilization can be done in May, June or July. We do not recommend fertilizing in the fall. Minimum sun requirements of 5 to 6 hours. Zeon is the most shade tolerant Zoysia along with El Toro Zoysia. Zeon Zoysia is a newer variety that is grown by North Georgia Turf and Sod Atlanta. Whenever sodding a yard it is better if all the sod comes from the same sod farm field. Zeon Zoysia is similar to Emerald Zoysia, but is a softer grass to walk on.
Meyers Zoysia
Meyers Zoysia is a thick bladed Zoysia that makes a beautiful lawn in full sun.
Bermuda
There are several varieties of Bermuda. Tif Grand Bermuda is a new variety that is more shade tolerant than other Bermudas. Tif Grand is a darker green than other Bermuda’s.
Tifway 419 Bermuda is the most common Bermuda turf. Tifway is a very durable grass that needs full sun. Tifway tolerates lower mowing heights. It can be mowed at 1/2″ to 11/2″ heights. The mowing height should be raised in the fall. The lawn can be scalped in April.
